Young stress Part 2
6:30 PM.Two fairly tall dark ladies appeared on the main road which was passing through my grandpa's vast piece of land.I was kneeling on a coach staring through the window still hopping to see mommy.
It had started getting dark. But I could see and tell one was my aunt, mum's elder sister and the other I couldn't tell. Though I had seen her several times with my mum.My aunt makes her way towards their paternal home, and the other lady retracts going to the left and makes as if coming towards us but again diverges to the left and gets lost in the bushy path that obviously led to the stream where water was fetched by the village square.
I stare thinking and feeling the calculations;something weird is happening.
Just then, when I could no longer see the tall dark figures,my mom appears through the main gate that was poorly constructed by wood and makes slow steps through to grandpa's house, but she stands at the entrance.
Still staring at her, trying to read her thoughts,I noticed she was tensed, rather un easy and somewhat in a hurry.
She glances to her left then right accompanied by my successive scrutiny to the two hurts which were closed and breathes down.
My uncle all along had been watching her. When she calls us out,we both run to her,my elder sis and I.
Just then,my uncle gets in his hut and comes out with a long black dangling thing. I had seen it several times with my grandpa while ploughing his shamba while ploughing. He stands there and blows a whistle.
Out of blues,my dad appears from the back yard, enraged and fuming with anger.Speaking local dialect,I guess that was directed to my mom who by now is holding the two of us at her back and yelling back at my dad.
Okay,I barely understood the language, but I guess my elder sister did.
All of a sudden,my dad whisked my mum to the right sending the two of us falling our little backs and screaming out of freight.
My uncle comes, and takes us in the house.By now mom and dad are seriously brawling as the merciless uncles, aunts, friends and villagers watch in ewe. None of them dared step up to stop the fight.
It was ugly,I couldn't take it. I was crying out loud but no one cared, everyone just watched.
My aunt, whom I thought had gone, comes back running to separate the two and takes my mum away.
I catch her last words through the air as someone pulls me from the window so that I couldn't keep on seeing the fight;"Siendi Bila Watoto wangu..." which translates to I ain't going without my kids. But I had seen it all and it was never going to fade.NEVER....!!!
My sister pulls me to her.She is also crying and hopelessly asking me to stop crying we were gonna see mama soon.We curl up in a corner like question marks crying uncontrollably. It was a sad day.
After a while my dad comes back takes us in his arms and sits on that coach. That coach that he was sitted on before.
Breathing hard, smacking and cursing that evening,he asks us to keep quiet.
Scared and not knowing what all we had seen was about,we fell asleep on his chest.
