Young Stress Part 3

Image
I woke up the following morning rather confused and so lost.I woke up beside my sister who was wide awake just staring blankly in the ceiling just waiting for me to wake up. When she notices I am also awake she lifts me up and leads me to the kitchen, where granny was still sitted beside the three stones, smoke coming out from the fireplace and covering the entire kitchen. Sipping her tea,she notices our faint footsteps towards her.She looks back and smiles at us. "Come here my children.." She motions us to a three legged stool and since we are tiny,we squeeze to fit on it looking at her with those kind of hungry eyes. Okay you know at the countryside;well. At least those days  we never had anything like brushing our teeth.Grandpa though would cut a stem from a cypress tree, chew the tip and give it to you for tooth brushing.Don laugh,I still see people do this even this  elite times. Grandmother,is kind enough to give us a cup of tea and some arrow roots. Well, they tasted ...

CITY LIFE 2

Something funny happens. The lady in their as usual says, "Ground floor...Door open." I feel I have had enough of those and so I decide to follow those who were going out. Just then I realize I am back at the same spot I was. Even more disgusting or may be shaming,I notice the same guy telling me what that thing was still staring at me. He walks towards me and introduces himself. "Hey,I'm Peter...Pater Mwangi." Okay, now my pride has been cut.It was short lived for I had to be sweet to this guy.He was the only one noticing the trouble I was going through. "Hey,I'm Tanisa.Tanisa Livingstone." Heard of when you go to Rome you do and say as them? I was keeping that rule :-) So you are new? Yes I suppose you've been looking for the rest of your group? I actually don know anyone by now,but could you please help me know  what the procedure is around here? Okay, all you need to do is go up the sixth floor, with all the things written in your...

CITY LIFE

Making an abrupt change from a daddy's girl to suit in a university as a first year is not a joke. Imagine all the culture shock, busy town and streets, crazy city dwellers and amazingly tall and beautiful buildings. Someone like myself would stand somewhere and watch this city stream to life in the morning and watch it die down at dusk. Monday oozes in with much traffic snarl ups,too much noise as a result of variant car and bus hootings, loud music from several business centres and the crazy shouting hawkers selling their products. Today is the first day in this campus.I have no idea where to start or end. However,I was ready to learn and pick up really fast. My dad was sick, really sick and each time I would think of him being taken to Nairobi hospital,a cold shiver would run down my spine sending my nerves in a tremor.Though I had to do this.To stay strong for him. Clutching a few requirements for registration and admission,I carefully cross the busy street, through to Moi ave...

Young stress Part 2

6:30 PM.Two fairly tall dark ladies appeared on the main road which was passing through my grandpa's vast piece of land.I was kneeling on a coach staring through the window still hopping to see mommy. It had started getting dark. But I could see and tell one was my aunt, mum's elder sister and the other I couldn't tell. Though I had seen her several times with my mum.My aunt makes her way towards their paternal home, and the other lady retracts going to the left and makes as if coming towards us but again diverges to the left and gets lost in the bushy path that obviously led to the stream where water was fetched by the village square. I stare thinking and feeling the calculations;something weird is happening. Just then, when I could no longer see the tall dark figures,my mom appears through the main gate that was poorly constructed by wood and makes slow steps through to grandpa's house, but she stands at the entrance. Still staring at her, trying to read her thoughts,I...

Young stress

It was on a cold evening.I barely had warm clothes on to protect me from the cold that was cutting through my flesh numbing my veins.Holding my chin, trembling uncontrollably and hoping for my mum to show up. Sitting outside grandpa's main house,I could tell something was a miss,I just couldn't tap on it but it was there. I could feel it. My elder sister was inside the house with my dad,I spotted my uncle at another hut one hundred yards away, standing and facing the road. Everything was so quiet and sending signals of something terrible in the offing. I sat there facing the road hoping for my mum to show up. She seemed to be taking long and that worried me a lot more than the deafening silence in this compound. One hour, two hours and three passed, she had not shown up. I was hungry,I wanted to eat.I was so cold,I needed something warm to cover me up. I stood up,flicked my hair, dusted my dress and got inside grandpa's house. My dad was sitted there, with my elder sister...
